Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment for Pain Management of Back Pain

Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is a gentle, non-invasive and drug-free way to pain management of back pain, neck pain and a host of other problems. Many of our patients find dramatic relief through realignment of their musculoskeletal system. Osteopathic manipulative treatment has been widely studied for its efficacy and practiced by many DO’s, doctors of Osteopathy.

Natural pain management with Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment

Osteopathic manipulation is a diagnostic, treatment and pain prevention discipline that meshes very well with Dr. Williams' approach to neck, leg, shoulder, and/or back pain management. Osteopaths (DO’s) will often work along with our other health care professionals to get the most effective pain management. Together, we can address any type of musculature dysfunction that results in acute or chronic pain. And because Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment is an effective, yet gentle approach to pain management, most insurance carriers cover it.

Doctors of Osteopathy start by evaluating the alignment of your entire musculoskeletal system. We check how evenly your feet and legs are balanced. For example, a misalignment in the ankles, knees or hips that can work its way up in terms of pain in your legs, back and even all the way up to the neck. These misalignments can also cause stiffness and limited range of motion. These misalignments may be very small, but multiple stressors and strains over time may add up to a challenging pain management problem.

The next steps in our Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment process involve resolving whatever misalignments exist in your body. Specialists in OMT apply gentle, hands-on pressure is applied to precise points on the body (ankles, legs, arms, etc.) to correctly align the musculoskeletal system. This results in an immediate localized pain reduction because nerves that were pinched are released and muscles that were unnecessarily tense can relax. In addition, patients usually find that stiff joints and muscles have an improved range of motion again.

The osteopathic process is very good for pain management of relieving back, leg and neck pain without any painkillers or their side effects. It is also particularly effective when combined with other natural pain management treatments such as acupuncture and massage therapy. We provide each patient with a complete host of options to naturally diagnose, treat and prevent pain and improve their overall wellness!
